Well, the new wall is mostly up - still needs to be stuccoed. Now that the wall is up we decided the patio area doesn't look as huge as it did before. Still cuts down the amount of yard we need to landscape - that's a good thing! Most of the cement walkway is gone.
We're going to do pots along the wall on the inside of the patio - terra cotta clay and talavera pots. I'm looking forward to a trip to Tubac to shop for pots!
Still looking for an inexpensive patio set to seat 4.

Day 1 recap
They delivered everything today. Tore out the retaining wall. Arnie saw where the new wall was going and asked if he could have a basketball court - the space is bigger than it looked on paper - at least there will be less to landscape!!!
Day 1
Walkway is still there.

Day -1 the pictures are below
These are the 'before' pictures. As you can see, the yard needs improvement.
Seamus does a great job, keeping all flying bugs, birds, helicopters out of the yard.

Landscaping ideas for the front yard
We currently have some sad grass - bermuda. And some lantana (we pulled out the roses and put that in). But we feel that it's unconscionable to have this much grass in a desert environment. Our dogs love to hang out in the front when we're out there, and we'd like a couple of trees for their shade, as well as a small patio to sit and watch the dogs, talk to the neighbors (we have a nice, friendly neighborhood.
We contacted Workzone landscaping to handle this. They in turn put us in touch with Labrum Landscaping to do the hardscape. We're happy with the design, with one or two changes in the planting.
There will be a couple of trees as well as two river beds.
Eventually they'll be redoing the backyard too - and we're happy with those designs as well. But first things first - the front - let's make the neighbors happy!
